India Plans Grants Covering 40% of Developing New Biogas Plants

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is providing grants to cover up to 40 percent of the cost of developing and distributing biogas- fertilizer plants for electricity generation.

The ministry invited expressions of interest from companies interested in setting up capacity of over 1,000 cubic metres of biogas generation per day 'in a few locations having suitable biomass materials in sugar mills, agro processing plant, poultry units, etc.,' according to a statement posted on its website.

The grants cover both distribution of the gas both by pipeline and bottle. The deadline for receiving applications is July 31.

The ministry had earlier sanctioned 11 such projects with capacity up to 1,000 cubic meters in eight states across the country.
